After blogging off and on for a couple of years, I’ve been using the experience to not only hone my craft, but to crystallize my focus and better understand where and how I can add value. I’ve also taken a great deal of time to understand what’s important, what’s great, what’s bad, who some of the key players are, and how it’s done. While every brand and personality is a little different, I’m grateful for the wealth of knowledge available through so many blogs, books and podcasts — many of which I’ll be sharing and featuring here on my site.
So what’s with the clothes in the closet image? I saw this image whilst brainstorming some branding for a new project and it grabbed my attention. It wasn’t a dramatic awakening per se, but it resonated with me. I believe the different outfits, clothes and colors speak of the diversity throughout our lives that we wear daily. No one person is only one thing because there are many things that make him up. Likewise, there are many forms or “hats,” so to speak, that fill in a person’s story. What we wear, and thus portray, tells a story that others read.
Likewise, most of us have a closet or some place to keep our clothes that we visit every day, to prepare what we will wear and how we will present ourselves. As I reflected over the last few months about what niche to pursue within the blogosphere, I realized that there was one right in front of me that I had been honing for years; beyond the media, business and professional experience. One that I draw from every day. And that is the collective knowledge, experiences, and ultimately, wisdom, that comes just from what we do, see, hear and breathe every day. Life’s most profound “ah ha” lessons tend to be right in front of us — right in the every day that we inhabit, as our most life changing realizations often do. I’m very passionate about learning and strongly believe that by just opening your mind beyond the predefined limits imposed, you can experience much more right here, right now.
I anticipate my brand, like me, will evolve and change with time, priorities and an ever growing focus on God’s call. As I reflected on this niche and what my content strategy might look like, I realized that I had an unlimited source of inspiration to draw upon, right from my every day experiences, opportunities, conversations, meetings, mistakes and learning points — all right in front of me. While some lessons or anecdotes may not be as breathtaking and cinematic as some others, every day we’re faced with real situations to deal with, learn and grow from in every facet of our lives, both personal and business.
The final result of my assessment was 5 core areas that I’ve made my goal to study and add value on:
- Life: Faith, Inspiration
- Media: Social Media, Branding
More to come…
